A Book Review

Under the DomeUnder the Dome by Stephen King

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Under the Dome was a hard one to put down, but did suffer (again) from a rushed ending, which is typical of a few of Stephen King's longer novels (like The Stand).

Great suspense, but not for people of delicate sensibilities. Yeah, I shouldn't probably have read it, but I've really got a thing for Stephen King novels. A PG-13 version of the book might have been nice, as I think the "F-bomb" count was at least as high as the number of pages in the book, but I think I've immunized myself against King's explicit style since I've been reading his books since I was a young teenager (don't tell anyone!).

My Pride and Joy

I love my boys. A lot. Case in point:

Kyle goes outside to "clean up" the garage. No, I didn't think he'd actually do it. Faithful Zachary follows him out. Not a minute later, Zach starts crying hard and comes back in the house, saying "Kyle hit me." Kyle comes back in, and when asked what he did, said, and I quote:

"I kind of accidentally very softly hit Zach in the head with a broomstick."

Wow. If "very soft" leaves a mark on a three year-old's head, I'd hate to see what more force would have done.

So, Kyle escapes downstairs, and Zach goes back outside. He then returns with a broom handle, looking menacingly for Kyle. I ask, as all good dads would, "Are you going to beat Kyle up?" Zach says, "No, I'm going to hit Kyle."

It's at those precious times my heart swells with joy. Or, maybe that's heartburn. Whatever.
