End of Summer Update

I'm currently in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, on a business trip that will end with my flying home tomorrow. It's been nice to see our corporate farm up here again, and I'm always dazzled by how beautiful it truly is up here. Lots of evergreens, blue skies, and a gorgeous lake that always impresses me.

Baseball with the boys ended up well. Kyle is currently in soccer, but since I know little more about soccer than you get the ball in the net and it's apparently proper to pretend you're hurt all the time with much wailing and gnashing of teeth, I didn't think it would be wise to volunteer to coach again.

Besides, I'm now taking on another of my "ridiculous" hobbies (the wife's word, not mine): officiating volleyball games. I've missed the game ever since I left high school, and I thought it was high time I get involved again somehow. The easiest way to do that was to sign up to be an official. I did my first game last Saturday, and somehow managed to keep it together enough where I'd like to do it again. It was great to be out on the court again, albeit in a different capacity than ever before, but I'm looking forward to the other games I have on my schedule this season, a few of which will take me to some fairly remote places in the state I haven't been to in a while. The wife just hopes I don't abandon this like I do all my other grand ideas, and to a certain extent, I'm hoping the same thing, but I do see this as a fun thing to do for a few months each year. Plus, I get the best seat in the house for some really good volleyball games. Maybe one day, they'll bring boys' volleyball to Utah too, but for now, it's only the girls, but they play a pretty mean game of volleyball, too.
