Randy Johnson took a no-hitter into the 6th inning and designated hitter Gary
Sheffield cracked 2 homeruns at Yankee Stadium as the New York (AL) Yankees
beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 3 to 2.

Johnson(1-1) was in control of the game from the outset. He gave up just 5
hits and 1 walk in 8 and 1/3 innings. Johnson struckout 9 Pittsburgh batters
lowering his ERA from 5.63 to 3.86. The left-handed Johnson lost his chance
for a no-hitter when Freddy Sanchez singled with nobody out in the 6th
inning. The teams had been locked in a scoreless duel until the 6th inning.

Tom Gordon earned the save, his 1st. Dave Williams(0-1) was given the loss.
He pitched 7 innings allowing only 5 hits and no walks.

Random Notes

As it's been a couple of weeks since my last post, a couple of things that will likely interest nobody except myself:
  • I'm not posting any more football statistics from my SOM replays. Good heavens, the last one took up the whole page. Sorry about that. I apologize for making something boring even more painful to look at.
  • I've now learned that having a dispute with the HOA may get you volunteered to serve the HOA. I got contacted yesterday by one of the unfortunate people that had to deal with my whole fence issue last year, and she asked if I wouldn't mind being a delegate for my neighborhood as ours is resigning. I told her I would, if I hadn't burned too many bridges, and she gladly accepted. She even sounds excited to work with me. I'm just glad I didn't offend anyone during that process. I tried not to...I'm really not very mean at all. I just figured they would hate me for causing all the trouble. I'm really very honored that they felt they could ask me to help. Guess my political career is starting, after all...
  • Found out I'm the coach for Kyle and Zach's baseball teams this year. Never coached baseball before, let alone for a bunch of 5 year olds and 3 year olds. Should be hilarious, actually. Bring on the summer and baseball! I never played baseball growing up, except for a few disastrous seasons of T-ball and coach-pitch softball, but I've always enjoyed it. Glad I can participate again, somehow!
  • It's that lovely time of the year again, too, when my HS volleyball team takes to the court. I couldn't have been more thrilled a couple of years ago when they won the state championship, and more disappointed that I didn't know they were doing that well beforehand so I could have gone back East to the game. So, I follow them a lot more closely now (I was part of the inaugural season back in...1995...), and have noted they are off to a 3-0 start to the season. Go Eagles!!! Man, I miss playing volleyball...
  • Everyone was sick over Easter weekend. Except yours truly. Who got sick the day after. I'm still doing better than everyone else, though. I don't think I've ever seen so much snot in my life. I'm going to buy stock in the Kleenex company, because I think we're singlehandedly boosting their asking price with all the tissue we've gone through!
  • Our daughter Sarah is a peach. So lovely, so bright-eyed, so in love with Daddy. What was wrong with my boys??? :)
