Kyle Loses It Again

Kyle added one to his ever-growing catalog of hilarious meltdowns. Today, he was the one to go get the mail. After reading one flier, he threw a tantrum of epic proportions, and threw it behind the couch. He yelled, "I'm not going to go clean the church on Easter! I think that's just stupid!!! Why would they make me clean the church on Easter???"

A little background before telling you what was on the flier that made him so mad: A few Saturdays ago, we were asked as part of the congregational rotation to go clean the church for an hour. It was really very painless, except from Kyle's point of view (even though all he did was just sit and watch, basically). I told him that we were doing some service, and thanked him for it in an attempt to get him to look at the experience a little more positively.

So, what was on the flier that set him off today? An advertisement from a local church announcing "Easter Services." He apparently thought that was a special, private invitation for him to come clean the church on Easter (this Easter Sunday will be a little different from most as it falls on the same date as our semiannual church general conference, so we can watch the proceedings on TV on Sunday instead of going to the church building, which Kyle is obviously looking forward to this year). We're not sure exactly what Kyle is expecting Easter to bring this year, but just don't suggest he go clean the church anytime soon, for fear of having to watch a major meltdown.

SOM Football Replay

I'm also concurrently running a simulation season featuring the 1998 Minnesota Vikings. In the actual season, the Vikings went 15-1, Gary Anderson had a perfect kicking regular season, and things were going along swimmingly until the Atlanta Falcons beat the Vikings in an overtime game in the Conference championship after Anderson missed his first kick of the whole year. I'm attempting to win them the championship in my own way now. We're 1/19 of the way there...

SOM Replay--Big Game for Rodriguez

A-Rod hits three home runs and has 10 RBI...I'm not an A-Rod fan, but it's a pretty impressive statline.

Shortstop Alex Rodriguez launched 3 homeruns and had 10 RBI as the New York
(AL) Yankees smashed the overmatched Pittsburgh Pirates, 17 to 7.

Rodriguez was spectacular at the plate. The hometown fans showed their
appreciation with a standing ovation his last time at bat. He belted a
three-run homer in the 3rd inning, lofted a three-run bomb in the 6th inning
and rifled a three-run blast (his 4th of the season) in the 7th inning. New
York (AL) provided plenty of action in the 3rd inning when they had 6 runs on
6 hits and the 7th inning with 7 runs on 6 hits. New York (AL) ended up with
18 hits for the game while Pittsburgh had 13.

Darrell May(1-0) was the winner allowing no runs in 3 and 2/3 innings. Ian
Snell(0-1) was the loser in relief. He was knocked around pretty good,
giving up 3 runs in 2 and 1/3 innings.

'I had a big day, but there's a lot of credit to go around' Rodriguez said.
'We played well together as a team.'

Strat-O-Matic Replays

One of my hobbies recently has been playing Strat-O-Matic baseball...it's a game that allows you to recreate games using historical teams and players based on statistical probabilities derived from actual player statistics each year (yeah, so it appeals to my math geekiness a little bit). I thought it might be kind of fun for myself to post some data to my blog as I play through a customized league consisting of 8 teams from 2005. It's a continuation of a league I started a few years ago using the board game version of Strat-O-Matic ("SOM"), and have now been able to automize a bit with the computer version. I get a huge kick out of reading the newspaper-style summaries the game outputs based on a replay of each game, and just think it would be fun to document my replays through my blog. I am sure this will interest nobody but myself, so whenever you see one of these posts, feel free to ignore it. I will continue to do "real" blog posts from time to time, but I wanted to give this a run to see how it goes. What follows is a summary of the games I've played to this point. I'd like to put in the full recaps as I complete each game, but we'll see how boring that gets for everybody. Hey, a blog is partially written just for the fun of the blog writer, right? In that case, I'm not going to feel so guilty!
