Pictures of the Boys

I've got some pictures of Kyle and Zach up at my in-laws' blog. Feel free to take a look. I'm just too lazy to duplicate the effort of posting the pictures here, too. I'm sure you understand...

Stupid Wife Tricks

Why I feel the need to share these, I don't know, but I accomplished two pretty amazing things with my wife in the last couple of weeks:

1. While eating with my family at a local restaurant (I'm not going to tell you it was IHOP because I don't want you to think that we slum at that restaurant a lot), I was enjoying my usual Diet Coke with a wedge of lemon. With my straw, I happened to suck up a seed that came out when I squeezed my lemon, so I had a little bit of a problem. Being the smooth kind of guy that I am, I proceeded to attempt to blow the seed out of my straw. I had the straw pointed down at my plate so I wouldn't take anyone's eye out in the process. I managed to get the thing cleared, and at that exact moment, my wife let out a bit of a yelp, and proceeded to remove a lemon seed from her mouth. I was so proud of myself, I could barely contain my excitement (I do lead a slightly boring life, it is true): I bounced the seed off my plate and into my wife's mouth across the table! What are the odds? Sadly, I will never be able to find out, for Laura was not excited to let me try to duplicate my success.

2. A small group of people from my work took a half-day trip down to Deer Creek reservoir for some wave-running and motor boating. Laura thought she might like to spend some time with me on a WaveRunner, so we took one out for a few minutes. However, I've been on a WaveRunner all of once before, so I'm not the best driver. Lo and behold, on attempting to bring the WaveRunner into the dock, I attempted to turn the thing without accelerating, as you're supposed to, and neatly dumped both Laura and myself off the WaveRunner into the water. I'm told you really haven't been married until you do something of this magnitude of stupidity. Well, we consider ourselves truly married now. Fortunately, Laura was not too upset at her husband's clumsiness; after all, she's known me intimately for almost 7 years. Not much surprises her anymore. Except, maybe, why she still hangs out with me...

One of My Favorite Pictures

I was just thinking about this picture I took some time represents four generations of the Harris family, with my grandfather (who passed away in early 2007, and for whom Zachary's middle name was given), my dad, me, and Kyle. I'm guessing this was taken sometime in January 2005, over Christmas break from law school (note the jackets my dad and I are wearing). I only wish I had had a better digital camera at the time, because I don't think the resolution on this is all that good, but it's a good memory for me just the same!

Brian Regan, the ABA, and "Coming Up" This Weekend...

Laura and I had the distinct pleasure of going to watch comic Brian Regan in concert last night in Lehi. Parking woes aside, what a great time we had. The show was in an outdoor amphitheater (blankets and pillows for us), and the time just flew as Brian told joke after joke. In case you're not familiar with Brian, he's a stand-up comic who has grown in popularity over the last few years after landing a contract with Comedy Central. The most amazing part about this gentleman is that he's decided to do clean shows...not a profanity or blue joke was uttered last night, and I swear he's funnier than most comics out there even with his "limitations." He's truly a class act. There's a review here of his show the night before we saw ours...he scheduled three nights in Lehi, all sold out. I guess Mormons are always looking for some good, clean entertainment!

A couple of posts ago, I mentioned some of my favorite legal films. Turns out, in totally unexpected fashion, that I received a copy of the ABA Journal the next day in the mail with their top 25 films in the legal genre. What first surprised me was that the ABA had taken time off of their busy schedule of spending my dues on frivolous causes I don't believe in to poll their "distinguished" panel of law professors what law movies they liked most. Turns out, they should have asked film historians instead. What a crappy list. Chicago, happily in their top 25, doesn't even compute as a legal film for me. And, while I enjoy watching a snippet or two from Liar, Liar every once in a while, it doesn't belong in their honorable mention list, either. Sigh. So happy when my ABA membership runs out this month. Aside from a couple of discounts I got on some admittedly useful law books...worthless. Sigh. Sorry for using my blog as a sounding board, but I hear that's what most people use theirs for... :)

Not much new with the other members of the Harris clan. My parents and siblings are off in Nebraska, returning from taking my sister to her Ph.D. program. Those of us who didn't have any vacation days (is Nebraska considered a vacation, though?) have been stuck here in the heat. Oh, well. No plans for tomorrow and this weekend, which is just how I like it. It took us an hour to get home from the concert last night, although we live only 7 miles away from the venue. That's how bad the parking is at the place. So, we got to sleep late, after of course watching the last part of the women's all-around gymnastics competition of the Olympics, so I'm beat. No energy to do anything, anyway, but sleep, eat, and hopefully get some leisure reading and patent work in. It should be a lovely weekend!!

Parenting Instructions for the Uninitiated...

I don't know whom to credit for these pictures (sorry, that's the IP attorney in me), but I nearly caused myself a serious injury when I first saw these. To the unknown artist, thank you!!
